Antique vellum-bound folio: Jacobi Pignatelli, Consultationes Canonicae, Tomus Quartus, printed at Lyon by Gabriel and Samuel de Tournes in 1700. A Latin canon-law reference set in double-column text, in its original limp-vellum binding with hand-inked spine title and an old paper library label reading Biblioteca Marco Abad. The engraved title page carries the de Tournes printer's device, a salamander in flames flanked by satyrs.

A book from the year 1700, in its original vellum, with a legible printer's device and a traceable provenance label. Limp-vellum folios have a particular presence on a shelf that no reproduction achieves: the cover cockles, the spine title is written by hand, and the whole object looks exactly its age.
