Antique Gilt-Brass Domed Boss / Rosette

Antique gilt-brass domed boss: a small circular ornament with a high-domed center ringed by four oval bosses within a fluted, ribbed border. The reverse is hollow with an internal bar, suggesting a knob, a finial cap etc.

Neoclassical in feel rather than Rococo, and satisfyingly geometric. The kind of small brass object that earns its keep in a tray of curiosities, or gets repurposed onto a cabinet by someone with a good eye and a drill.

CONDITION: good decorative condition. Warm gilding with age wear and darkening, light verdigris in the fluting.
