Antique French Framed Herbarium Specimen - Convolvulus (Morning Glory), Ornate Gilt Frame

Antique French framed herbarium specimen (herbier) - a pressed climbing bindweed hand-labelled in brown ink 'Convolvulus purpureus' (Convolvulacees; morning glory), mounted on blue-grey laid paper behind glass in an ornate gilt-gesso frame with scrolling foliate moulding. From a 19th- / early-20th-century French botanical study collection - the most decorative frame in the group. CONDITION - age-appropriate: brittle dried specimen with minor losses, paper toned and spotted (label torn at one corner); gilt frame with rubbing and small losses, glass dusty. NOTE - one of a matching series (see Items 17-20); could be sold as a set. Species per the collector's handwritten label, not independently verified. Frame dimensions to be confirmed.
