Antique French Comtoise Clock Face with Figural Pastoral Brass Crest

Original 19th-century French Comtoise clock face with an exceptional figural repousse gilt-brass crest depicting a pastoral farmyard: a standing ox at the center, a seated herdsman, and sheep, goats and other animals among dense fruiting foliage. The white enamel dial has bold black Roman numerals, a double-line minute track and two winding holes.

This is the rare one. The overwhelming majority of surviving Comtoise crests are the standard sunburst-and-flower-basket design; a fully figural rural scene with livestock and a human figure is a genuinely scarce variant, and the modelling here remains crisp and legible. Collectors of French horology and dealers in Black Forest and pastoral decorative art both compete for this type.
