Product Details
Original 19th-century French Comtoise (Morbier) clock face with an exceptional figural repousse gilt-brass crest depicting a pastoral farmyard scene - a standing ox or cow at the centre, a seated herdsman, and sheep, goats and other animals among dense fruiting foliage. This animated rural scene is a notably finer and scarcer crest than the common sunburst-and-flower-basket type. The white enamel dial has bold black Roman numerals, a double-line minute track and two winding holes (unsigned). Offered as decorative architectural salvage - face/front assembly and reverse only. CONDITION - age-appropriate: enamel with fine crazing and scattered spotting; gilding worn with mellow patina; the thin repousse crest has the usual minor splits and losses but the scene remains crisp and highly legible. Reverse is a black-painted iron plate with recessed resonator disc. NOTE - the figural pastoral crest is the standout feature and the main driver of value here. No movement, hands, weights, pendulum, or case. Dial is unsigned; Comtoise/Morbier attribution and 19th-century dating are based on style and construction. Dimensions, weight, price and cost to be confirmed by seller.
