Antique French Comtoise Clock Face & Fruit-Basket Crest, Signed "Chavin a Grenoble"

Original 19th-century French Comtoise clock face with a pierced repousse gilt-brass crest of overflowing fruit baskets: grapes, apples and pears among scrolling foliage and C-scrolls, over an egg-and-dart and beaded surround. The white enamel dial is signed in block capitals "CHAVIN A GRENOBLE" for the maker and his town in the Isere, with bold black Roman numerals and two winding holes.

The fruit-basket crest is a scarcer variant than the standard sunburst-and-flowers design, and it reads warmer, which makes it a natural for a kitchen or dining wall. This is a second, distinct Chavin dial with a block-letter signature, separate from the script-signed floral example in this collection.
