Product Details
Original 19th-century French Comtoise (Morbier) clock face with its pierced gilt-brass repousse crest of overflowing fruit baskets - grapes, apples and pears among scrolling foliage and C-scrolls - over an egg-and-dart and beaded surround. The white enamel dial is signed in block capitals "CHAVIN / A GRENOBLE" (the maker and his town, Grenoble in the Isere), with bold black Roman numerals and two winding holes. This is a second, distinct Chavin face - block-letter signature and a fruit-basket crest - separate from the script-signed floral example elsewhere in this inventory. Decorative architectural salvage - face/front assembly and reverse only. CONDITION - age-appropriate: enamel with crazing, a few chips and spots; gilding worn with patina; thin repousse crest with minor denting/losses as typical. Reverse is a heavily oxidized/rusted iron plate. NOTE - no movement, hands, weights, pendulum, or case. Maker and town per the dial signature; date inferred from style. Dimensions, weight, price and cost to be confirmed by seller.
