Antique French Comtoise Clock Dial Signed "Gallien a Bourgoin"

Original 19th-century French Comtoise clock dial, signed on the white enamel "Gallien a Bourgoin" for the clockmaker and his town, Bourgoin (now Bourgoin-Jallieu) in the Isere, southeastern France. Hand-painted with pink tulips and a ribbon-tied floral swag, with bold black Roman numerals and an inner calendar track. Offered as decorative architectural salvage: the enamelled iron dial plate and its reverse only.

A signed dial is the version collectors look for, because the signature ties the piece to a named maker and a real place on the map. This is the flat plate without a crest, which makes it the quietest and most graphic of the Comtoise faces, and the easiest to hang in a modern interior.
