Antique Cast Iron Garden Urn (Campana Form)

Antique cast iron garden urn of classical campana or tazza form, with a wide everted rim cast with running ornament, a gadrooned lower bowl, a knopped socle and a stepped square plinth base. Weathered to a rich surface of rust and remnant old paint.

The campana urn is the single most recognisable form in garden antiques, and the reason is proportion: the wide flaring rim over a tight gadrooned bowl reads as classical from any distance. Left unplanted on a terrace or a gravel path, it works as sculpture. Planted, it flatters almost anything that trails.
