Product Details
Collection of antique plaster medal casts / intaglios - a quantity of white plaster impressions ('impronte') taken from historical coins and medals, in the manner of 19th-century Grand Tour and academic study collections. The casts include Spanish and Neapolitan subjects - for example Fernando VII 'Rei de Espana y de las Indias' 1812, 'El Rey D. Francisco de Asis Maria', 'Neapolis 1792', and a Salamanca provincial medal dated 1881 - with several inscribed engravers' names (one reads 'Franco Gordillo, Grabador de la Rl Casa de Moneda de Mexico'). Stored in an old wooden box lined with period Spanish ledger paper. CONDITION - age-appropriate: plaster chalky and toned, with some chips, edge losses and surface dirt; a few casts may be cracked. NOTE - strong decorative AND collector appeal (these display beautifully framed or grouped on a wall). Please confirm the total count - the value depends heavily on the number and on whether it is sold as one intact collection (with the original box) or split into smaller groups; worth a specialist look. Individual casts approx. 1.5-3.5 in across.
